So what do you think came first the chicken or the egg? As you ponder on that, we are going to talk about eggs. We have various types of eggs; quail eggs, ostrich eggs, duck eggs and chicken eggs but to name a few. When it comes to eggs, most people prefer chicken eggs both in business and for the house. Eggs are one of the foods I would classify as a super food, this is due to the nutrients present in eggs that are lacking in modern diets. Eggs are used as an ingredient in so many different types of foods and deserts, and also used as face masks!

As of last year a tray of eggs was selling at KSHS 270, and now a tray of eggs is going for KSHS 300, according to Christopher Ihure, a farmer in Thika. Christopher started farming last year and started with 400 chicks and total of KSHS 200,000 to KSHS 270,000 that was inclusive of the structure and chicken feed. The cost of chicken feed varies from supplier to supplier, for example, at the time of writing some of the costs were:

SupplierCost (KSHS)

Chick Mash2,800.00

Growers Mash2,300.00

1Layers Mash2,750.00
